The high quality of life we are seeking on behalf of our residents can be attributed to the physical surrounds, the level of care, the quality of our staff and the social engagement and activities of the home. While each of our homes is run to the same high standards and delivers the very best in professional care, the specific facilities and services you will find in each home will be different. We can, however, give you an idea of what to expect in our homes.
Facilities
Our care homes are purpose built or specifically adapted to provide security and comfort for our residents. We have invested over £2 million in the last five years to ensure that every home meets our high standards.
Bedrooms
You are welcome to bring personal possessions with you to make your room feel more like home. Many rooms are en-suite. All our rooms have smoke detectors, 24 hour call systems and are fully heated and well furnished.
Communal Areas
The type and number of communal areas varies from home to home. Each will have at least a communal lounge, dining area and a quiet area for peace and relaxation. The bathrooms vary, but each home provides showers and specialist baths.
Outside
Outside areas vary from home to home from patio areas to large landscaped gardens. Some homes have adapted their outside spaces to stimulate the senses through sensory gardens or provide access through wheelchair suitable paths and raised flower beds.
Services
As well as the very best care, every Peninsula home provides high quality meals, on site laundry and daily cleaning and an ongoing programme of maintenance.
Catering
Food is an important part of our resident’s lives and well being. We provide good quality, nutritious food with plenty of variety. We take time to ensure personal likes and dislikes are catered for as well as catering for those with special diets.
Our homes have four weekly menu cycles, which are changed twice a year. Residents can have a cooked or continental breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, and afternoon tea with homemade cakes, an evening meal and range of supper snacks.
Laundry & House Keeping
Our house keeping team work hard to ensure homes are clean and odour free. Each home has its own state of the art laundry facilities equipped with Otex, a system that kills bacteria and viruses including MRSA and C. difficile. We ask that all clothes are clearly labelled and suitable for washing.
Maintenance
Each Peninsula home has a maintenance person who is responsible for the upkeep of the home and ensures compliance and safety checks. We have a team of outside professionals for more specialised work including electricians and heating engineers.
Care Plans
Our person centred care approach means that you will be respected as an individual and treated with dignity. Every resident has a personal care plan which recognises their individual needs and wishes. The care plan also documents all aspects of the care you need to ensure consistency and continuity of quality care.
Dementia Care
Three of our homes specialise in caring for people with dementia and dementia related conditions. We provide safe environments that are adapted to the unique needs of the resident so that they can enjoy as much independence and mental and physical stimulation as possible.
Our activities programme includes arts and crafts, reminiscence therapy, exercise and musical entertainment. We also encourage residents to carry out small tasks throughout the day, such as laying the table, arranging flowers for the home and folding laundry which helps retain self esteem and involvement in daily life.
We wish to understand each resident’s life history and ask for help from the resident’s friends and family. Understanding the reason behind an action can help us manage our resident’s frustrations when they are unable to express what they want.
Life History
The importance of understanding a resident’s life history is widely recognised in particular for those with dementia. If your family member is moving into a care home you may wish to prepare a scrapbook or keepsake box which helps trigger memory recollection. The possibilities are endless but perhaps include certificates, trophies, knick knacks, letters or concert programmes, tickets to sporting events that have special significance. Enlarge, laminate and label photographs of different events through their lives, maybe a CD of favourite music. There is no right or wrong regarding contents, each will reflect the individual’s rich tapestry of life.
