Meet Team Vicky Care Lead Plymbridge House

Posted on

We continue our Meet the Team series with a very special celebration — 25 years of dedication from one of our valued team members, Vicky.

Reaching 25 years in one workplace is a remarkable achievement, particularly in social care. Over the past quarter of a century, Vicky has supported residents, families and colleagues with commitment, compassion and professionalism. During that time, she has witnessed significant changes in care, technology and regulation — yet the heart of the role has remained the same: putting people first.

We celebrated with Vicky reflected on her journey, the memories that stand out most, and what has made Plymbridge House such a special place to build a long and rewarding career.

You’ve been part of Plymbridge House for 25 years - what first brought you here and what made you stay?

I left the nursing home I was at for five years to work as a Medico Legal Secretary, which only lasted about six months as I knew that this was not the job for me.  I was used to being around people and working in a team, not in an office on my own.  I applied for a care job here and started a week later.  I stayed because care is what I am meant to do and what I enjoy.  I get on well with everyone and felt part of a team straight away.  I have made many friends over the years, and this is also what kept me here.

How has your role evolved over the years, and how has your career journey developed over 25 years?

I started here as a carer in 2001, already having experience in care working in a nursing home for five years whist I was at college.  I then progressed to being a senior carer in 2003, then a care lead in 2025.

When you think back to your first day, what feels most different about the home today?

When I first walked in, I can remember thinking how dark the home was due to dated décor.  Now the home is light and airy with extra communal areas.  There are more activities, so the residents are more stimulated.

What are you most proud of when you look back on your time at Plymbridge House?

Leading a successful team of carers and mentoring staff to develop their skills.  Completing my NVQ 3 and NVQ 4.  I am proud of being part of a well-structured and successful team.

Can you share a particularly special moment or memory that has stayed with you?

The way staff celebrate you through your achievements.  On 13th February I have worked at Plymbridge House for 25 years and a get together was organised without me knowing.  Staff helped me to celebrate, receiving gifts and flowers.  I had a visit from some staff that were not on duty and had a visit from Managing Director Louise and Kathie who was Registered Manager for many years at Plymbridge House before retiring.

Within your role at Plymbridge House what do you find the most rewarding?

I love caring for the residents.  I love laughing with them and making them laugh.  I always try to bring my positive energy into the home.  Plymbridge feels like a home for all who live here and a happy home.

What do you think makes our home special?

The atmosphere.  The home is always full of hustle and bustle and laughter.  We have a good standing in the community with a good rapport with all visiting professionals.  The care we deliver is exceptional.  The strong bonds between staff and residents is clear to see.  We work hard and laugh hard, and this is what makes Plymbridge the special place it is.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in care?

Working within a care home and for me delivering care is a rewarding career.  Even though the job can be stressful at times it gives meaningful impact every day.  Don't be afraid to ask questions as this helps you develop and progress in your career.

If you could sum up your 25 years in a few words, what would they be?

Rewarding, dedication, fun, friends, support, empowerment, dignity and wellbeing.  But most of all it’s been a pleasure

I would like to thank all the staff past and present at Plymbridge.  Some for their guidance and everyone for their support, you make my life a lot easier.  I have loved and still love working with you all.
