The success of the Kickstart Scheme!

Posted on

Although the kickstart scheme has now been withdrawn, it’s a great reminder of how positive this scheme was.

At Peninsula Care Homes we are all so pleased and proud that we were part of the scheme and today have 5 members working as part of our team.

It was such a great way for us to employ new team members into new roles. It enabled training and development that would have been hard to achieve otherwise.

Below is a brief background to the programme as well as the detail of its withdrawal. The Kickstart Scheme was introduced by our government to provide work placements for 16-24 year olds claiming universal credit. The work placements were fully funded which enabled us to support with employability skills. This took place over a period of 6 months and for 25 hours per week. Companies were not allowed Kickstart people to cover existing vacancies or to displace employees.

Peninsula Care Homes welcomed people through the scheme, 5 of whom are still with us today. Some started in positions such as a Kitchen Porter and went onto being a carer or as part of our Head Office team.
